168 / charon models nakimuli's ice mambo dress
As for my favourite designers, I'm only really getting back in to the high fashion world again after years of ignoring it. In my teens Versus was my favourite - was so excited to see it make a return with Christopher Kane at the helm! I think my favourite now is Balmain - even this SS10 collection is utterly to die for, not that anything could top AW09, potentially one of my favourite fashion collections OF ALL TIME.
Moreover, size availability is neither a necessary nor sufficient bar to actually possessing something from a designer collection. Even if it came in your size, would you thereby purchase it? Fat girls can fit into Elena Miro, but the sparse availability of boutiques and the cost of the clothing prevents many from wearing it. And just as fat girls make it work with other clothing lines, you can find designer pieces that fit larger bodies. I know this from my (limited) firsthand experience but also from other fabulous fat women.
I think it's a pity that many purveyors of plus size fashion lack the creativity and quality found in many straight sized lines--designer or not. I look to designer collections mainly for inspiration, and I think that alone is enough. So, I would disagree w/ you too.
Also, it's worth noting that the majority of even straight sized women who could theoretically fit in to his clothes would still not be able to wear them because of affordability. Fashion ISN'T just for fashion people, I see no reason we can't look be inspired, and adapt them into our own wardrobes.
One thing I like/liked about Gareth Pugh was that initially he didn't make his garments to be worn, just to be looked at, so in that regard his clothes belonged to everyone who saw them.
